Cypress Lumber

Cypress is a softwood growing throughout the Southeast United States. Timeless in both beauty and durability, it is used for all types of residential and commercial applications.

Cypress is a treasured and protected resource. Acadian respects our natural resources and is engaged is the preservation of Cypress and other important species which are harvested worldwide. Because of Cypress’ uniform texture that is easily worked, Egyptian Mummy cases were made of Cypress.

Today, Cypress grows from the hilly country to the swamps throughout the southern United States. Acadian’s central location in the southeast portion of Louisiana is considered the goldmine of the Cypress forest industry. The environment in this area is a diverse, fragile, vibrant and fertile one. Louisiana is teaming with the wildlife unparalleled by any of its adjoining states. The delta of the mighty Mississippi River feeds this wildlife and the immense forest covering the swamps.

Today erosion control is an issue and tomorrow it will become a part of the past. Louisiana’s legislators are preparing new ways to protect the resource and make it stronger for future generations. The past diversions and controls of the watershed for this area are marked by standing dead timber. Poisoned by the saltwater backwash from the gulf and the attempt to control the yearly flooding that historically brings new life into this area, flushing the water through the swamps produces new life there and brings nutrients elsewhere, continuing the circle of life.
